All hands were on deck at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 28, when an electrical fire broke out in a two-story multi-use building on West Bel Air Avenue in Aberdeen.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene, where there was smoke billowing through the area until crews could get the flames under control after approximately a half-hour, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal.
While battling the blaze, officials said that one Aberdeen Proving Ground firefighter fell from the second floor to the first. He was evaluated by paramedics at the scene and was able to return to duty.
The two-story, multi-use building included a hair braiding business, a small church to the rear, a vacant storefront, and an apartment on the second floor.
A total of four occupants from the apartment were displaced by the fire, according to the fire marshal.
Officials said that the bulk of the fire was contained to the floor, and ceiling area, however, the remainder of the building sustained extensive smoke, soot, and water damage.
The fire caused an estimated $150,000 in damage to the building and led to several road closures in the area.
